Hughes Accepts Manchester City Vacancy
Ex Manchester United striker Mark Hughes has signed a three year contract to take over as the new Manchester City manager. Hughes departs from Blackburn after leading them to 7th in the Premier League last season.
Thaksin Shinawatra was believed to have had Hughes at the top of his wanted list after Sven Goran Eriksson was fired. Shinawatra is on record as saying:
“Mark was always the first choice of our new executive chairman, Garry Cook. Together they will make a great team. They will both prove to be excellent acquisitions, I’m sure.”
Hughes had a good record at Blackburn Rovers, taking them into Europe twice on a shoestring budget. He also took them to two FA Cup semi-finals. Many City fans are now eagerly waiting on the announcement of exactly how many of Shinawatra’s millions will be in Hughes war-chest to try and fire City into European contention next season.
